My favorite things when I was a high school student:

  • Annoying my favorite teachers- especially my Spanish teacher Mr. Forina. He once said that he disliked entering a library because it made him immediately aware of his own ignorance and reminded him of how much he had left to learn. He also used to say his favorite book was the dictionary and constantly told us to write poetry- especially love poetry- while we were young. I miss him a lot- he changed the way I look at the world.
  • COFFEE
  • School trips to places far and near- I had the honor and privilege of visiting Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, and Costa Rica during high school.
  • YMCA Camp Nellie Huckins in Freedom, NH.
  • Playing the flute poorly in the football pep band and concert bands.
  • Being on the varsity girls' ice hockey team, the varsity sailing team
  • Hanging out near Copley Square and the Public Garden and attending concerts at the Axis and Avalon (where the House of Blues is now).
  • Watching my comfort movies / TV Shows: Gilmore Girls, Up!, 10 Things I Hate About You, Bridget Jones' Diary, The West Wing, The Shawshank Redemption, Moulin Rouge
  • Reading my favorite books: Stiff by Mary Roach, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith, The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway, anything by Edith Wharton, Octavia Butler, or Marjane Satrapi.
